Program and eligibility

Who the designation is for, what the curriculum covers, and how the learning experience works.

Who is eligible to earn the CHCA designation?

CHCA is intended for professionals with at least two years of relevant experience in insurance, financial services, accounting or tax, legal services, healthcare, HR, or benefits-related work. Eligibility is confirmed as part of the enrollment process.

No. The designation is designed for professionals across several disciplines, including insurance, financial planning, accounting and tax, legal services, HR and benefits, and healthcare. Your work should meet the relevant-experience requirement.

What topics does the program cover?

The curriculum addresses Medicare rules and enrollment, penalties, IRMAA, benefits coordination, ACA and under-65 coverage, prescription strategy, Medicaid, Social Security, ethics, compliance, and practical client cases. Long-term care planning is not part of the current curriculum scope.

How is the course delivered?

The program is delivered online and is self-paced, allowing participants to work through the curriculum and practical cases around their professional schedule.

How long does the course take to complete?

Because the course is self-paced, completion time varies based on prior familiarity with the material and the time each participant chooses to devote to the program.

What must I complete to earn the designation?

A minimum score of 85% is required to pass the final CHCA assessment.

Professional use

5 questions

How active professionals may use the designation, along with the responsibilities that remain with them.

When may I use the CHCA designation and graduate badge?

You may use the designation and approved graduate badge after meeting the program requirements and while your certification remains active and in good standing. Brand and usage guidelines still apply.

Does CHCA replace professional licensing or continuing-education requirements?

No. CHCA is a professional designation and does not replace state or industry licensing, regulatory obligations, continuing-education requirements, or the legal, tax, fiduciary, and scope-of-practice responsibilities attached to your work.

How can CHCA apply across different professions?

The curriculum provides a healthcare-planning foundation that can complement work in insurance, finance, accounting and tax, legal services, HR and benefits, and healthcare. Each professional remains responsible for applying the learning within the boundaries of their own role.

Can CHCA professionals charge planning fees?

Earning the designation does not by itself authorize or require a planning fee. Advisors using CHCA fee-based planning tools must follow the current agreement and fee schedule, disclose fees in writing before services begin, and comply with applicable laws and licensing requirements.

Does earning the designation guarantee business growth?

No. CHCA can support clearer client conversations, professional differentiation, and broader healthcare-planning knowledge, but it does not guarantee revenue, referrals, client outcomes, or business results.
